Aesthetics in Bodybuilding

We often use the word “aesthetic” to describe a piece of art that is pleasing to look at whether it be because of its harmonious selection of colors and patterns, balanced composition, a well-constructed arrangement of objects within the image, or all of the above. As a regular gym-goer, the word “aesthetic” also brings to mind the sport of bodybuilding. The tagged Quora post discusses aspects of the male physique that largely contribute to our perception of someone’s body as either aesthetic or rather mediocre; these include a strong V-taper in the back, a balanced lower body that matches the upper body in mass, a chiseled waist, and a low body fat percentage to name a few. Through hours of intense training and diligent dieting, bodybuilders bring to stage physiques that celebrate the aestheticism of the human body.
