Starting tomorrow, a new exhibit in Sweden is showing “disgusting” foods, such as Scottish Haggis, Vegemite, Spam, fruit bat soup, and more. The director of the pop-up museum says he wants “people to question what they find disgusting,” because disgust is a biological response, but societal norms and cultures also show people what they should be disgusted by. The project was called “inherently subjective” by the people who worked on it, and remains open to interpretation because of all the factors that go into disgust, including the fact that tastes and opinions of disgust may change. The intention is for people to taste, look, and smell, and question what their disgust may mean.
