American poet John Ashbery is also a collage designer: he’s skilled in both the art of composing stanzas of words but also composing visuals with different images — which I thought was interesting, given the nature of Project 2.
The author of this article even compares his poetry and his collages: she says “Ashbery’s poetry increasingly adopted a collaged aesthetic, commingling art-historical imagery with kitschy Americana and pop-cultural explorations of identity”; it is interesting to see that two completely different art forms can be described similarly in their composition, and is interesting to see the parallels between the two.
