Last week, I was thinking about the idea about how artists’ art becomes more readily accepted and praised after death. This resurfaced when the late rapper, XXXTentacion won the Best New Artist award at the BET Hip-Hop Awards this week. Similarly, the late rapper Mac Miller’s song “Self Care” has reached the over 52 million views on YouTube and peaked on the trending charts over the course of the last few weeks. This made me wonder, is an artist only fully appreciated after death? I personally think it is wonderful thing that art has the power to transcend far beyond the creator’s life span. Rest in peace X and Mac Miller.
