The Price for Fine Art

This past week Banksy made headlines again, as a piece of his work was sold for $1.4 million, appeared to self-destruct after the it was auctioned off. The canvas bore one of the artist’s most famous works. The piece slid down from its thick frame, shredding half of the piece. This widely viewed moment was viewed with criticism, but art dealers think the stunt has inly made the work more valuable. It is ironic, as the stunt was meant to be a criticism of the art market. On Instagram, Banksy disclosed the details of the custom-made frame, which included a shredder, just in case the piece was ever up for auction. This reminds me to question what is the price of fine art, and should art be defined by price or quality.
