Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and (although it is unknown as to whether people actually use this) Google Plus — today we have so many different platforms to upload and share our pictures. A common phenomenon in the modern century is the particular focus on aesthetics, and users of social media go so far to create a photo that is “visually appealing”. This often involves random jewelry sprawled across the picture or color filters being used to manipulate the image to be more vivid or soft than the original photo.
Ironically, most of the preparation for the picture is not necessarily ‘candid’ as people deliberately place the objects in the most “natural-looking-way” possible. (Like, how can that leaf on top of the notebook possibly be there naturally?)
